Hayden Headley Hooks is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated summa cum laude from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. At Auburn, she was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa, the oldest academic honor society in the United States. She then attended the University of Georgia School of Law where she received her J.D. with honors.
Hayden and her husband, Bardin Hooks, moved from Atlanta to his hometown of Americus in 2015. Before relocating, Hayden practiced education law at Thompson, Sweeny, Kinsinger & Pereira, the law firm for the Gwinnett County Board of Education, the largest school district in Georgia. Before joining Lawson, Reid & Dean, Hayden was a partner with the Albany law firm of Perry & Walters, LLP.
Hayden has extensive experience serving as general counsel for counties, cities, boards of education, and other governmental entities. She also serves these entities and private businesses as defense counsel in employment matters, contract disputes, and civil rights claims.
Hayden has conducted training on Title IX, student discipline, employee grievances, and special education matters for the Georgia School Board Association, Chattahoochee-Flint RESA, and local boards of education. She is a member of the Georgia Municipal Association Attorney Advisory Council and plans continuing education programs for city and county attorneys.
She is a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Americus and is active in her church and community. She and Bardin are the parents of one son, George, and their beloved cocker spaniel, Lettie.
